GasGenie features

It is very difficult to know how much gas is left in the cylinder at any time. Picking up the cylinder and swishing it around does not really help. And pressure gauges are no use. They only give minutes or even seconds warning before the cylinder is empty. Replacing the cylinder before it is needed is wasteful of expensive gas.

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a warning when the gas was running low but still with enough there to easily finish the current BBQ?

The GasGenie is the answer.

The GasGenie warns you when the gas is running low. In the same way that a car fuel gauge lights up when it is time to refill. So there is plenty of time to finish cooking and then find time to replace or refill the cylinder. The GasGenie works by electronically monitoring the gas level and when it detects that the gas is running low it emits a tuneful sound and flashes its LEDs. There is no need to switch it on or turn it off. The GasGenie is always on standby and will only sound when the gas is actually turned on and running low.

To use it simply insert the two AA batteries supplied with the product, close the unit and clip it magnetically to the lower part of the gas cylinder. That’s all. (See full instructions below)

Instructions for use

  • Slide back the battery cover.
  • Insert 2 x AA Alkaline batteries (supplied) into the GasGenie. It will make a musical alarm sound, and flash the LEDs
  • Replace the battery cover until it clicks in place.
  • Place the GasGenie with the side marked ‘This Side Up’ uppermost onto the side of your gas cylinder. Place in a position such that the lower part is near the curve of base of the cylinder. (See diagram)
  • Leave in place whether or not the gas barbecue is being used. The LEDs will flash every 20 seconds to indicate the GasGenie is active.
  • For best results position the GasGenie out of direct sunlight.
  • Once the GasGenie goes into alarm it will continue until soon after the gas is turned off. It will alarm again on the next few occasions that the grill is used.
  • To get the GasGenie to silence itself more quickly simply remove it from the bottle. It will then go quiet after a few more alarm sounds. Alternatively remove the battery for a few seconds and then replace it. The GasGenie will then reset itself.

The GasGenie will monitor the gas liquid level when the gas is switched on. It will give warning alarms (a musical alarm sound every few seconds) when the gas is beginning to get low. The LEDs will also flash at this time. When the alarm first sounds there will still be time to finish the grilling and also for one or two more grilling occasions.

When the cylinder is due to be replaced simply remove the GasGenie from the bottle and put somewhere obvious like a refrigerator door. The GasGenie can then act as a reminder that a replacement bottle is needed.

The batteries should last more than a year. If the LEDs do not flash it is time to replace the batteries.

Important Note:

The GasGenie works by detecting small temperature changes in the cylinder wall when the gas is turned on. It therefore needs to be in place some minutes before the gas is switched on in order for its sensors to adjust to the cylinder temperature. We advise that once you have placed the GasGenie on the cylinder you leave it in place. Only remove it when it is time to replace the cylinder.
